Mentorship

The Lok Jack GSB Alumni Mentorship Programme is a programme initiated by the Advancement and Alumni Relations Centre for the students of the Lok Jack GSB. The programme is intended to assist and guide students by pairing them with graduates who will provide mentorship and guidance as they progress through their respective academic programmes at the Lok Jack GSB.

What is the A.M.P?

The Lok Jack GSB Alumni Mentorship Programme is a programme initiated by the Advancement and Alumni Relations Centre for the students of the Lok Jack GSB. The programme is intended to assist and guide students by pairing them with graduates who will provide mentorship and guidance as they progress through their respective academic programmes at the Lok Jack GSB.The mentorship programme is intended to be of mutual benefit to both students and alumni. Both students and alumni benefit from the new connections they are able to build, personal growth, as well as career development support.

Objectives of the Lok Jack GSB Alumni Mentorship Programme

  1. To assist students by pairing them with past students who will provide mentorship and guidance as they progress through their respective programmes at the Lok Jack GSB.
  2. To expand the professional networks of all participants with the view of having a more integrated and diverse Lok Jack GSB business network.
  3. To assist in the professional development of the future business leaders of the Caribbean.
  4. To tap into the tacit knowledge and experience inherent in the Alumni in training the new generation of professionals which are not necessarily learned in the classroom.
  5. To facilitate the transfer of knowledge from different eras of business professionals for the overall development of all participants.

Definitions

Mentor – A mentor is a graduate of the Lok Jack GSB Academic Programmes and an experienced professional who has worked in their respective field for several years, who has working knowledge about the job and industry, and who is willing to assist students seeking career development and professional growth. A mentor shares knowledge and experience, offers advice, facilitates networking and provides support to assist the mentee.


Mentee – A mentee is a member of the organisation who may be a recent entrant to their profession, or a member who wants to move into a different profession or enhance their professional development.


Mentoring program – Is an established framework designed to support the management of an organisation’s mentorship. A successful mentoring program has an accepted definition of mentoring and a clear purpose and set of expectations

Roles and Responsibilities of Participants

All participants (Mentors and Mentees) are required to:

  • Act ethically and with respect towards all other participants.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with exchange of information.
  • Make a commitment to attend all prearranged meetings.
  • Discuss expectations honestly and openly and be understanding of other persons’ situations, beliefs, and wishes
